What are Bands?
Bands are 'Zones' set to each athlete for specific Metrics. These Bands allow for a more detailed breakdown and analysis of certain metrics.
How to Set Bands for Athletes
- Log into the OpenField Cloud and select the Settings page.
- Click the Bands tab from the Settings menu.
- In the Filter Athletes search bar select athletes by typing in either a Position, Team or an Athlete name.
- Beneath Global Bands, select the parameter you wish to adjust the bands for. Bands can be set for the following metrics:
-
Acceleration
-
Heart Rate (you can also set the units to use, e.g. Beats per Minute or Beats per Second)
-
Velocity (you can also set the units to use, e.g. Metres per Second, Kilometers per Hour etc.)
-
- Modify the bands as needed by typing in a value range for each band under Global Bands, as seen below:
- Heart Rate and Velocity - up to 6 bands can be applied. If you do not need all 6 bands, for the bands not needed you can set the band thresholds to 0.
Ensure the threshold to leave a band is equal to the threshold to enter into the subsequent band (i.e. Band 1 = | 0 | 5 | then the next band must be Band 2 = | 5 | 10 | ). - Acceleration (Gen2Acceleration) - includes 3 Deceleration and 3 Acceleration bands, as follows:
You will notice that the upper limit and lower limit of bands 4 and 5 respectively are blocked out. Acceleration data tends to be quite noisy around zero, so to minimise noise we do not allow users to report on bands that drop to zero. Band 1 and Band 3 are the highest and lowest intensity of deceleration bands respectively and Band 6 and Band 8 are the lowest and highest intensity of acceleration bands respectively.

- Heart Rate and Velocity - up to 6 bands can be applied. If you do not need all 6 bands, for the bands not needed you can set the band thresholds to 0.
- To check if an Athlete is selected there will be a checkbox with a tick symbol to the left of their name. Please adjust accordingly to apply the new bands to specified athletes. To deselect an Athlete, click the checkbox to clear the tick symbol.
- Once modified, select Apply To Selected Athletes.
How to Set Relative Bands for Athletes
- For the Heart Rate and Velocity parameters, you can set the bands to work as a percentage of the Athletes' set profile max values.
- To access, open the Heart Rate or Velocity bands.
- Tick the Use Percentage box.
- Fill the banded areas with the percentage of max value you wish to include.
- Ensure the checkbox is ticked next to the Athletes you wish to apply to.
- Once modified, select Apply To Selected Athletes.
- If you untick the Use Percentage box after applying the bands to the Athletes, you will see the bands for those Athletes will show different values based off their own set profile max value.
For further information on setting the Max Heart Rate or Max Velocity for the Athletes, please see the Default Athlete Profile Settings article.
If you set relative bands for an Athlete, you will receive notifications if they exceed their profile max velocity or max heart rate. For information on this please see the Notifications article.
Additional Information
- Once new bands are applied, they will only be automatically changed for future activities. To apply new bands to old activities you must reprocess old activities. For more information click here.
- For bands to be applied to the devices users will need to open the Catapult Vector app, run a sync, then remap the Athlete to their current device.
